"Portraits of Holy."

What is holy, anyway? And how do we find recognize it?

K O L L A B O R A T I O N : "Wire Hangers"

I was wildly blessed enough to participate in an artistic movement last Saturday. Kollaboration, whose mission is to inspire Empowerment Through Entertainment, has reached Asian Pacific Islander American communities for ten years by hunting and promoting Asian American artists.

More about Kollaboration here.

Kollaboration New York 5, which pulverized the Highline Ballroom on June 26, featured ten artists. Comedians. Singer/songwriters. Dancers. And me, the resident "spoken word" artist. Alfa, whose first music video premiered a week before, won second place (with her bassist!), and Paperdoll, a poppy indie rock band with a crazy talented lead singer (Teresa Lee) whose stage presence blew my mind, took home the grand prize.

Stalk the rest of the talent here.

The day after Kollab NY 5, I moved back to California (temporarily, but indefinitely). The timing couldn't have been more awkwardly perfect. Embracing myself as an "artist" first and a human/employee/everything else second is still new. Uncomfortable.

I needed Kollaboration. Needed to surround myself with artists and with artists/administrative artists/staff in passionate support of the arts. I met a few people whom I believe I will know for the rest of forever. People I will trek back to when the timing is ripe.

So to everyone remotely involved with Kollaboration (and to everyone who was in the audience), nine thousand thank yous. Last Saturday marks a turning point in my life. I'm not fully sure in which direction I'm turning, but I know it's the right one.

If you haven't already, check out the promo video here! (Watch for the bloopers!)

And, the piece I performed:

Much love.
